Photography Feature: Underwater Disposable

I love underwater disposable cameras. If the local swimming pools in my area weren't so picky about them being used in the public pools, I'd definitely have a lot more of these types of photographs to show you. However, I have a few from my holiday I thought I'd pop in a photography post as I have done a P.F. for a while!

There is something so magical about underwater shots. Taking and posing for these photographs made me feel like a mermaid! I purchased my underwater disposable camera on Amazon for just under £8.

Fashion and Beauty Haul

Sometimes, you just have to bite the bullet, grab the moment and pee into the wind (sorry, couldn't not include that one!) Thats exactly what I did two days ago when I walked into office and saw a pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes reduced to £55. Absolute bargain of gigantic proportions. I'm here today to show you my new babies and the other bits and bobs I've picked up recently! Enjoy and get yo butts down to Office. Seriously.

Blazer: primark
Shoes: JC at Office
Lush Skin Tint (and sample)
Lush 'Dynamic' pigment
Topshop Tee (see video)
NARS eyeshadow in Nepal (see video for swatches)

Note: Please excuse how spaced out I am in this video! It was early and I was sleepy (I'm not on drugs, promise).

Séville à L’Aube Launch

Let me set the scene. Its a hot Summers day, 25th July 2012, to be precise. A young, lone girl, clad in a floaty maxi dress ascends a stair case into a basement. The basement is painted dark, with cabinets filled with beautiful glass bottles, a menagerie of scents. The low ceilings and alcoves feel mysterious and grand. The girl feels as though she has been transported into an alternate land.

Okay, so since I stopped English Lit for the Summer, it seems my creative writing brain has gone on holiday. But you get the jist. That was how I felt last Wednesday upon attending the launch of perfume and creation of the master perfumer for  L’Artisan Parfumeur Bertrand Duchaufour and perfume journalist Denyse Beaulieu

When Bertrand Duchaufour met Denyse Beaulieu, she told him of an encounter she had had, with a young Spanish man in Seville. A Holy Week long gone and the scent of Orange blossom filled Beaulieu's memories and her story inspired Duchaufour to create a scent. The scent would tell the story, become the story and become a lot of work for both creative minds.

Bertrand Duchaufour and perfume journalist Denyse Beaulieu
The perfume took about 18 months in total, to create and make perfect. Duchaufour said 'I can normally do perfumes like *clicks fingers* that' but this took more work. The testing and work which went into the perfume paid off. The smell is zingy and fresh yet also spicy, passionate and erotic. You can really relate the perfume to the story and I think that is what makes it so incredible.

It so different from the mainstream 'sporty man,' 'flirty women' perfumes which take on personas, rather than stories, that I think it becomes wearable for most women, regardless of age. This is something which can't be said for many perfumes.

Séville à L’Aube 100ml EDP- RRP: £82
Attendees of the launch were given a gift bag to take away, containing a 100ml bottle of Séville à L’Aube and Denyse Beaulieu's book 'The Perfume Lover.' I was so happy to receive the book as well as the perfume as it goes into more depth about the birth of  Séville à L’Aube. I found myself hanging off both Beaulieu and  Duchaufour's every words at the launch. It was all over too quickly for my liking and the magic melted away as soon as I left L'Artisan's shop in Covent Garden. However, having the book and perfume at my disposal will help me relive that wonder.

The perfume will be available from L'Artisan late July 2012 on the website, stand alone stores and concessions. It has an RRP of 105Euros/82 Pounds and will be available for a limited time only.

I'd like to thank L'Artisan for having me and for my invite.

Please note: Séville à L’Aube will also be available on and the next upcoming offering from L'Artisan, ‘Mon Numero 7’ will be available exclusively on QVC this coming October.

You're part of my unmade plans

This week has been a crazy mish mash of shopping, working, partying and events. I must admit, I've thoroughly enjoyed it! I have slightly over indulged myself, I feel but I believe I can be forgiven, its the start of summer, after all. Next week will be more productive and healthy- promise.

here is what I'm wearing today:

 Tee: Topshop
Skirt: Zara
Blazer: Primark
Trainers: Converse
Ring: Jelly Button Jewellery
Nail Polish: Topshop Green Room

I only purchased this tee from Topshop's Tee and Cake the other day, but I already know its going to be a staple in my wardrobe. Its comfy, cute and totally geeky. I think the lego brick ring also adds to geeky (chic...?) air to this outfit.

Beauty Blues

It seems everywhere you look at the moment, catwalk beauty is mimicking the recent downpour England has had, with blue, blue BLUE. From simple blue powder shadow seen on Akris models, to the fierce blue lips on the Jeremy Scott models. Whilst I'm not quite confident enough to go all out, a la Stella McCartney/Jeremy Scott, I am really excited for this trend. Blue and turquoises are by far my favourite colours so these looks are right up my street!

I decided to do a multi-tonal blue eye look and show you all here, how I did it. Its bold, blue but not so out there that its not wearable. You could easily recreate a similar look with navy blues if these bright tones are too bold for you. Similarly this look can be done really, really lightly. Think 'barely there blue' for College/work.

1. Prime eyes, I used my home made eye primer (comment for tutorial!)
2. Apply a cream, blue base all over the lids (I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Turquoise Forever)
3. Line lashes with a blue eyeliner (I used Gosh's Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Blue Moon)
4. Apply a lighter, blue powder shadow to the inner 2/3rds of your eyelids (I used No7's Pacific Green)
5. Apply a green eyeliner to crease and outer corner (I used Gosh Woody Green)
6. Blend with a blending brush.

What do you think of my blue eye look? Are you dipping your toes into the pool of blue beauty land, or furiously hugging your neutrals? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!

When I hit that dip, get your camera

Back again with another outfit post! This week has been a crazy muddle of birthdays, partying and spending more money than I probably should have done. In all honesty, think its probably my way of numbing myself to the impending doom of results day. Please don't judge me! Anyway today was more relaxed, a chilled out day around my friends house, gossiping and playing video games. Here is what I wore:

 Tee: H&M
Shirt: A boutique in Brighton
Shorts: Abercrombie and Fitch
Belt: New Look
Bag: River Island
Necklace: H&M
Shoes: Kurt Geiger

I just can't get enough of the pattern on this shirt! The cute, retro owls make me happy. Its such a different print from the rest of my sheer shirts (I'm usually drawn to florals- my wardrobe is awash with them!) It wasn't too expensive either, at just under £20.

In other news, it sucks to still be in tights in July! Definitely missing the 30+ degrees of Kos. Hopefully the weather will pick up soon. *Looks to sky expectantly*

How to Make: Oreo Brownies

So today I wore....Oh wait, this isn't Amy speaking (for once) but is her boyfriend, Jimbo. I'm here  because Amy asked me to do a guest post on a bit of baking (becuase what do I know about makeup/clothes?) and to finally say hello to you guys. Hello!

I must apologise for my terrible grammar and everything, I'm no English student like Amy but a Physicist (awesome right?)

Recently I've been baking quite a few brownies for various events and people seem to like them, can't think why, but I'm going to post the recipe for you. This recipe isn't mine, can I just add, I found it in the May 2012 edition of the Sainsbury's magazine and all credit goes to Lorraine Pascale, I'm just a messenger.

Oreo Fudge Brownies
Makes: 16
Total Time: Around 45 minutes.

175g butter
200g dark chocolate
3 large eggs, 2 large egg yolks
Seeds of 1 vanilla pod OR 2 drops of vanilla extract
175g light brown sugar
2tbsp plain flour
1tbsp cocoa powder
1 x 154g pack Oreo cookies
Icing sugar, for dusting

1) Preheat over to 180*C, fan 160*C, gas 4
Line a baking tin with nonstick baking paper (you can grease the tin, but I don't see the need) so the paper slightly overlaps the sides of the tin.

2) Melt the butter in a pan, remove from heat and add the chocolate. Leave for a few minutes until the chocolate softens, stir together.

3) Whish the eggs, egg yolks and vanilla in a bowl till light and fluffy. Add the sugar in two lots, pouring down the side as to not knock out the air, whisk until the mixture becomes stiffer. Pour in chocolate mixture around the edge and mix gently.

4) Add the flour, cocoa powder, a pinch of salt and about a third of the Oreo's (depending on how many you feel). Stir, pour into the tin. Press the remaining Oreo's on to the mixture (again depending on how many you want).
Bake on the middle shelf for 25-30 minutes - it should be slightly gooey in the middle.

5) Leave to cool in the tin, then lift out using the baking paper and cut into squares. Dust with icing sugar.

- I advise cutting another bit of baking paper an resting on top of the final mixture before cooking, saves burning the top and the edges which are quite prone to over cooking.

So, Oreo Brownies, enjoy. It's summer after all...

Thank you for reading my first post on The Camera's Lying, hope you don't mind me butting in. Oh and "Jimbo's Opinion" is still happening, soon. So look forward to it.

Amy- 'The boy did good, didn't he? May I add, his Oreo Brownies are OUTSTANDING and you guys should all try this recipe- I know I will be. If you enjoyed this post, or had a go at making the brownies yourself, tweet Jimbo (@jimbobrewer) and follow his Tumblr. Speak soon and lots of love.'

What I Purchased on Holiday

So I may have made a few sneaky purchases recently. What can I say? I'm some sort of addict. All three products were purchased from Duty free so that makes it guilt free, right? Anyway here is what I picked up:

But I'm one that you can't see if I'm only 18

The next in my little series of Birthday posts (I'm sorry, I'm sorry!) For my birthday I was lucky enough to have two days to celebrate, one with my friends and one with my family. Both were held outside in my garden under a gazebo (boo summer rain) and both had an Alice in Wonderland theme to them. The first was for my friends, on my actual birthday. For this I owe my best friend Stephanie a big thank you. She made punch and all sorts of Alice paraphernalia. From flamingo crochet, to light up toad stalls and a Cheshire cat smile to pop in the bushes. She even roped in her boyfriend who drew an awesome drawing of the Jabberwocky and my boyfriend who made origami roses, white, of course, NOT red! 'Off with his head!'

 Tee shirt: Primark
Cardigan: H&M
Skirt: River Island

I was truly touched by how much effort everyone put into making the party a success! From my parents and Grandparents who supplied the garden, food and alcohol to my friends who gave me well wishes, cards and presents and of course Steph and her team of little helpers!

Raising Money for The RSPCA

I'm an avid animal lover, that much is undeniable. From the very large, to the tiniest of pets, I can't bare to think of anyone homeless or being ill treated. I've owned many pets over the years, from cats to hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits, many of them from shelters or rescue homes. I often make donations to various animal charities but I fear as a student, this is going to become increasingly difficult as of September.

So, this is where you lovely lot come in. I'm selling prints of my personal photography to raise money for the RSPCA. You can choose any of my photography displayed on my Flickr. You can also choose from regular 4x6 prints or larger canvases, which will be priced accordingly. But 100% of the profits will go to the RSPCA, or, if you have a shelter in your local area which you would prefer the donations to go to, we can arrange this also!

If you have an idea, specifically, of what you would like, but you can't see anything like it on my Flickr page, I can arrange to do a shoot to fit your specific needs although there will be a service charge of £5 upwards depending on travel/props/equipment costs.

If you would like to buy a print please email: or alternatively leave a comment below. All payments will be made through paypal. If you don't want to buy a print, please share or tweet about this blog post. I would love to raise a substantial sum for the RSPCA!

Thank you,

Birthday Presents!

July, Friday 13th, my birthday. My 18th birthday in fact! I know I don't often splash my age around on the internet, thats due to the fact I don't want to be discriminated against for being "too young" in the blogging world. I certainly don't feel 18! As a 'cup-of-tea-and-a-good-book' kind of lass I reckon I'd be more suited to a much more mature age bracket. However, I thought you may like to see what I got on this milestone, since I did one of these posts last year, too.

Darling Robot Necklace- No 7 Amazing Eye Pencil in Black (already my bestfriend)- ORLY 'It's Up To Blue'- Silk Warehouse Shirt- Ben Howard's Every Kingdom (love this album)- Yankee Candle in 'Strawberry Buttercream' and 'Pink Sands.'

Antique Cameo Ring (a family heirloom and a very special gift)- Ruby and Diamond Necklace (stunning piece)- Oasis Silver Watch (I love this, it looks beautiful on).

'Insurgent' by Veronica Roth (can't wait to read!!)- Newton Faulkner's 'Write It On Your Skin'- Lush Bathh Ballistics.-

Silver plated bracelet- Lush Bath Ballistic (I'm going to smell yummy!)- Yankee Candles in 'Beach Flowers,' 'Vanilla Lime' and 'Pink Dragon Fruit.'

Guylian Chocolates- Accessorize Gift Card- Arcadia Collective Gift Card.-

Carvela Kurt Geiger Pumps

Spotty Mugs- Flying Saucers- Cadbury's Dairy Milk Bar'

White High Top Converses

I feel very lucky, to have been so spoiled by friends and family on my 18th. It was an unexpected extravagance and I can assure you, everyone was showered in hugs and kisses! I just hope I make everyone elses birthday's as special as they have made mine.
