Dior Addict Lipgloss in Shade 436: Review

You know that beauty product which you bookmark for months, hoping, one day to be able to justify buying it? That is what the Dior Addict Lipglosses were to me. My bookmark beauty product. So, when I stumbled upon this baby on a blog sale for £5 (RRP £21) I couldn't say no. A week or so later, here it is. Shade 436 or 'Apricot Cloche.'

436 is a beautiful pinky orange colour with lots of iridescent shimmer (gold and pink) its like a sunset in a lipgloss! The packaging is also divine. It feels expensive and looks beautiful on display. Its also sturdy enough to justify flinging it in your bag without worries of 'lipgloss explosions.'

As for the applicator, its a short, precise brush applicator (not my favourite type) but the bristles are very dense meaning you have a lot of control and it holds and transfers the product well onto the lips.

Not only is it well pigmented for a gloss, but the staying power and finish amazed me. It survived a scolding hot cup of tea! Its also non sticky, which means I don't have to pin my hair up before wearing it. I can definitely see why this is such an expensive, luxe product. Would I ever have purchased it full price? Possible, but being able to test it first, for a fiver, was great!

Guest Post: Things beauty addicts forget in the Autumn/Winter

Hi everyone, my name is Sophia and I am very happy to be guest posting for Amy today.
Over on my blog, Tattooed Tealady, Amy was the very first person to do a guest post for me. So I am happy to be finally returning the favour with my very own guest post for her blog!

Things beauty addicts forget in the Autumn/Winter

I don’t know about you but my favourite time of year is Autumn. But there are so many things many beauty obsessives seem to forget about when Autumn and Winter come about. Here are my top six things which I think are still as important in the Autumn and Winter as they are in the Spring and Summer!

Use an SPF!

It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, or where in the World you live. Even here in the UK where it’s grey and dark, it is still important to use an SPF. No matter how dark it may look outside, rays from the Sun can still reach our skin and damage it. Using an SPF moisturiser keeps your skin protected all year round. My favourite is the Antipodes Immortal SPF15 Natural Sun Protector.

Don’t forget about your toes!

When Spring and Summer come around every one is in a mad rush to get their feet flip-
flop perfect. I think looking after your feet is important all year round, not just in the warmer, sunny months. Using a foot scrub in the bath or shower followed by a moisturising foot lotion, cream or butter can keep your feet super soft and pampered all year round! I love applying my Dirty Works Best Foot Forward Foot Butter before bed!

Nourish your skin!

The weather in the Autumn and Winter can really give our skin a beating. It can make our
skin dry, dehydrated and rough to the touch. Using the right kind of products to keep your
skin protected, nourished and moisturised is even more important in the Autumn and Winter. I love using my Nourish Argan Skin Rescue and my Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing

Night Cream before bed on cold nights, especially if I have been out in the cold, windy

Keep your skin soft!

I love using body butters all year round but just as much as the cold can affect our faces, it
can affect our bodies, too. I find using body oil works really well to keep my skin all over my body super soft and I just adore the Di Palomo Wild Fig & Grape Dry Oil!

Don’t be afraid to highlight!

Everyone seems to change their makeup choices when the new, colder seasons roll around. But don’t be afraid to reach for old favourites! I like to use my Benefit High Beam all year round to give my makeup that something extra and really finish off a look!

So those are my top five tips and top six products that I think all beauty lovers should
remember in the Autumn and Winter months! I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you try to stick to using in the Autumn and Winter or whether you usually change your routine up! You can find me over on my blog which is Tattooed Tealady, as well as on Twitter where I am always happy to have a natter! @Tattooedtealady!

Thank you Amy for letting me guest post today here on your blog, I hope you and all of your readers enjoyed my post!

Love, Sophia xo

Missing him was dark grey, all alone

Over the last couple of weeks I've been lucky enough to receive some additions to my winter wardrobe from members of my family.  Hopefully I'll now be better equipped for the fast approaching winter. Speaking of weather, I'd like to send my thoughts out to anyone/anyone with friends or family effected by Sandy on the East Coast. I hope everyone reading this from the East Coast stays safe.

I've already given most of these items a trial run and I love them all! I can't wait to rock the midi denim skirt, as that is the one piece I haven't worn yet. Such a great find!

We're happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time

Hold the phone! Amy is doing an OUTFIT post. Hell has frozen over and pigs are flying! I have no excuses which are particularly acceptable other than I left the tripod at home and I feel awkward posing in front of my fellow University students.... But guess what! I found a little field behind my flat with a perfect style to prop my camera on. Its great because its secluded, with tons of natural light and loads of autumnal leaves littering the ground.

 Tshirt: Topshop
Skirt: Zara
Boots: Unknown
Blazer: Primark
Coat: H&M
Snood: New Look

Fancy and some what flawed editing going on there! I just couldn't decide which awkward pose I was least embarrassed by, so I included them all! Back to the clothes... This outfit was a colour blocking attempt at brightening my mood on what can only be described as the COLDEST day EVER. Well, not quite, but there was certainly a nip in the air I was ill prepared for when I first left the house (sans coat). Layering is the new naked, didn't you know?

Aw cute autumn Macro shots to get us all falling into Autumn (geddit?) Bad pun. Here is the 'I heart fall TAG' which fitted appropriately into this season post, enjoy!

Ciate Mini Mani Month Advent Calender Review!

Its no secret that I love getting packages and letters in the mail. Anything with a stamp on it excites me. Yes, even bank statements. But this was something else. When I got a little card saying I had a Selfridges package awaiting me and the porters office I ran there in Usain Bolt time (almost) and gabbled something incoherent to the porter about 'package' 'please' 'Amy' and 'its here.' He was very confused. What is this mystical item you ask? Well, didn't you read the title?!

Yes, girls, its an advent calender full of 20 Ciate mini paint pots, and 4 mini pots of caviar beads. I've put a comparison photo above of a regular Ciate pot (13.5ml) next to the mini ones included in this kit (5ml) as reference, but all together you recieve 100ml of polish in this kit.

Another bonus (trying to justify the £38 price tag...) is the fact that 3 of the shades are surprise colours, exclusive to the Calender, and yes, they are glitter polishes! How festive. I've included shots of each of the 24 polishes/bead pots in the video below, so I suggest switching off before that stage if you'd prefer the exclusive shades to be a surprise.

I'm also totally, head over heels, in love with the packaging! Awesome psychedelic print in a range of gorgeous colours makes me want to think of some way to reuse it after the advent.

You can buy the Ciate Mini Mani Month from Selfridges, here. Or, if £38 is a bit steep but you'd like some free makeup, join my giveaway of a MAC lipstick. HERE!

Interview with: Olivia from What Olivia Did

Olivia is one of those bloggers who hooks her readers in and uses a clever mix of gorgeous photography, great style and consistently great content to keep them reading. When I first stumbled across her blog (before I had even started my own!) I read all of her posts in one sitting. Crazy? Quite possibly, but Olivia's blog remains a firm favourite of mine and TONS of other girls.

Not only is she fashionable and talented, shes also one of the loveliest bloggers around. Shes helped me out endlessly by helping to kick start mine and my boyfriends joint blog when she retweeted the link, she always answers my questions regarding blogging, uni and Brighton. I'm so glad I found her blog.

So, I had a few things I wanted to ask the fabulous lady and I thought you guys might like to read her answers! So thank you, Liv, for letting me interview you for The Camera's Lying!

Hey Olivia! What inspired you to start your blog?
Hello! It was a mixture of reading a lot of other fashion blogs, and being an avid music fan. My blog initially began as a music blog and after discovering some incredible fashion blogs decided to take my own in that direction- and hey, here we are!

To date, whats your favourite post on your blog?
Ooh goodness, I don't think I could say! I try to make sure every post I publish is up to my best standard and something I'd be totally proud of; however saying that I always favour my interview posts as I always admire the people I talk to and know the work that goes into making them interesting.

How do you describe your style?
I'd probably say it's a funny mix of girlie girl-meets tomboy with a hint of 60's nostalgia thrown in for good measure.

Favourite outfit you've worn recently?
Ooh probably my Olive tweed skater skirt and navy jumper! It's something I always feel so comfortable and happy in; and will always run to it when I can't find anything else I want to wear.

Favourite F/W 2012 trend?
I love matchy prints, the colour 'oxblood' (or dark red!) and chunky knitwear- but I suppose that's always a winter trend!

Whats your biggest blog related achievement to date?
Oh goodness, probably coming away with Best New Fashion Blog at the Cosmo awards 2011! It still to this day stuns me. Saying that, I've been asked to give a talk at Cambridge this week about blogging which is pretty much beyond my wildest dreams!

Whats next for WhatOliviaDid?
Hopefully a grown up job in writing/styling and maintaining to write my little blog!

Can you see yourself blogging for a long time?
Definitely! I like to think I still post because I enjoy it and not because it's a chore, and as long as I still do it with the passion I began it with than I'd like to think so!

Any tips for new bloggers?
Just do it! (and do it because you love it)! People are so hesitant about beginning blogs, but I find if you just go out there and write and photograph at your very best then eventually you'll build up something you love.

Are there any posts on your blog which now make you cringe?
I guess so! I look back at my oldest posts and do think 'what was I thinking?!' but at the same time, it's those posts that build the foundation of what my blog is now, and I guess they're all part of a learning curve (deep huh?)

This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Sometimes a girl just begins to lust after unobtainable items. Or items she doesn't need. We can't help it. In the way white van men are over come by a desire to honk at innocent women walking down the road, my eyes are constantly being drawn to items I think I need. Here are my latest obsessions:

1. MARC by Marc Jacobs Studded Mouse Pump- £211.57
A punky, amped up version of the original mouse pumps, these will look incredible with anything, casual or dressy. Instant chic, no effort required, and aren't those little ears just, so, cute?!

2. Kindle Fire (8GB)- £129
The amount of reading I'm doing at the moment for my course (books and online PDF print outs) would be made so much easier if it was all in one place rather than some in books on my shelf, others being loans from the library and COPIOUS amounts of pdf print outs all over my room. The new 'fire' model of kindle is fast, coloured and can run apps as well as movies and youtube. Its my perfect blogger/student gadget.

3. CHANEL ROUGE COCO SHINE Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in 'Adventure' -£24
What female hasn't lusted after a slice of Chanel at one point. In my eyes the brand is the epitome of class and femininity. I especially love this shade of lipstick 'Adventure,' a beautiful girly pink. Something I don't have in my collection!

4. Revlon ColourBurst Lipgloss in Strawberry- £7.99
Sticking with the pink theme, I'm loving this pink Revlon Lipgloss. Its so girly and bright I think it would go great with every shade of nude and pink. I've also heard such good things about this range, as a lover of the colorburst lip butters, I can certainly believe this.

5. Vintage Tea Party Year Book- £12.00
Tea parties, Alice and Wonderland and Vintage pretty much sum me up in a nutshell and thus, I need this book. A 'how to' for every vintage tea party possible throughout the year. Think festive, cute and very British.

'I don't mind living in a man's world, as long as I can be a woman in it' -Marilyn Monroe

MAC is celebrating the life of an icon, one of my favourite icons: Marilyn Monroe. Be still my beating heart. As a student I didn't think I would be able to justify buying anything, and at any rate it sold out like CRAZY on the MAC website. However a visit to a MAC counter, and very generous lady named 'Mum,' I'm now the owner of a Marilyn Monroe MAC Lipstick in 'Charmed I'm Sure.'

It such a gorgeous red shade, so iconic of Marilyn, that I feel I should wear it like she did- with pride and every where! Another great thing about it is the pigmentation- its such a deep pigmented red and the slight blue undertones help to make teeth look whiter. Perhaps not Marilyn white.... but a girl can dream!

As a matte shade I was also impressed with the moisturising levels. Normally matte lipsticks dry my lips out, but a bit of balm underneath this kept the shade nice and non-drying all day, and I mean all day! The lasting power is great (as you'd expect of a matter shade, but this really blew my socks off!)

Now if MAC could just release a Audrey Hepburn collection that would be my two icons covered! Please and thank you.

MAC Lipstick Giveaway

My darling followers, I want, need you to understand how much you have helped me, through following my blog. Your endless support and kindness has given me more confidence than I ever dreamed I could possess, which in turn allowed me to come to uni, mostly, lacking nerves. The sheer amount of you never stops to over whelm me. Over 600 people want to read my little thoughts and ramblings, you stick by me when theres a lull in content and have opened doors for me like I never knew existed. I've been to events and met some of the greatest and most inspiring people because of your support.

But more recently, sponsored posts have allowed me to begin uni without the stress of a job. This means I can keep up with my uni work and still have time to make friends here and blog. I did gain a job, but after finding out my hours I panicked. Could I still find time to keep up with my work, and update my blog here, something that keeps me sane? I had a mini melt down and took the hard decision to live off my loan alone. This is where blogging came in. You may have noticed a few sponsored posts cropping up here and there, they are giving me peace of mind. They are supporting me and taking some of the weight off my parents shoulders, and I know, that without all of you, this wouldn't be possible.

So, I want to give something back, my love, and some makeup, just because. SO here it is, a giveaway of a MAC Lipstick, of your choice. I'm sending you my MAC coated kisses and your own MAC lipstick to cover your kisses in.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Eternal love and friendship,

September Favourites

September has been and gone and almost as swiftly as a bird beats its wings, Autumn is upon us. whilst I can't deny that I'm already missing turquoises and pastel yellows, I'm embracing deep auburn and berry tones and kissing goodbye to bare legs. I thought I'd share with you my favourite products of this September and write about how they've been good to me this gone Month.

MAC Lipstick in Rebel
The most perfect transitional berry lip shade, you can wear it as sheer as you like which meant it was great for those September days which were, slightly, summery. I can't get enough of this sumptuous colour. It isn't drying, lasts a long and fades beautifully. Okay so its not cheap but I know I'll never find anything quite like this shade.
OPI Nail Lacquer in Suzi Says Feng Shui
A deep sea blue, just dark enough to be consider 'Autumnal,' yet light enough to satisfy my never ending craving for blue hues. I painted this on my nails and then painted over the chips and scuff marks as the colour wore down. Thats how much I enjoyed this colour.
 MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
A cult favourite and for good reason. A gorgeous hazel brown colour with slight gold shimmer in it. It makes my eyes look awake and bright regardless of late nights.. I can't get enough of this beautiful shade, it really is more than just a bog standard 'brown' eyeliner.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Expresso Ink
This gel eyeliner has been serving to make my lashes look a lot thicker through the application of a thin line to my upper lash line, as close to the edge as is possible. The almost yet not nearly black brown shade matches my eyelashes perfectly. If it wasn't such a pricey product, I would definitely buy more shades!
Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer
Seeing the early hours of morning and often dawn, also has taken its toll on my under eye area. This concealer blends flawlessly with my natural skin and provides perfect coverage without being too heavy. Another triumph for Bourjois in (and under!) my eyes.

What have been your favourite products of September?

I've got you stuck on my body like a tattoo

When the local shopping centre offers a student 'Lock In,' (where, effectively, the students are let loose in a shopping center after hours and offered crazy discounts, even on sale items) you don't go 'no I'm cool, thanks.' You grab the chance! I was suitably held back due to guilt at the fact I've barely been a student 3 weeks and I'm already buying 'non essentials.' I didn't even end up getting a clothes! Shock. Horror.

Here is what I did get:

Makeup/beauty Items:
Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover
I'd run out of nail polish remover so this was, in my mind, essential. As you can see in the photo above, my nail polish was getting SO chipped!

Collection 2000 Shimmer Shades in Blushalicious
I've wanted one of these for ages, but never got around to buying one. I love the versatility of it, four different shades which can be used individually or swirled together and the price. It was purse friendly even before the student discount!

MUA The Artiste Collection
6 marble effect eyeshadows, two blushes, a bronzer and a highlight shade all in a neat little palette for only £8. Absolute bargain. I love MUA's palette's (Heaven and Earth being my favourite) so I needed this as soon as I saw MUA's tweets about it! Oh and did I mention that student discount? *Winks*

Superdrug's Dry Shampoo
Oh so, I don't mean to rub it in, but being a penny pinching student CAN have its benefits, events like these, for example, which not only give you crazy discount, but also free gifts! This was what this dry shampoo was, upon my purchase of the other three items. It will be useful for those in between washes, days and for when I want a bit of vavavoom on a night out!

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
A cult classic, hard hitting, twisted, yet beautiful work of art (according to internet sources). Could this be possible? I wanted to find out and picked up the book after hearing the name so many times on the blogosphere.

A Storm of Swords 1: Steel and Snow by George R R Martin
My boyfriend and I are both really into the Game of Throne books/series (well, lets face it, who isn't?!) I'm on the third book after finishing the second one months ago and never getting around to buying the third. Can't tell you I'm not excited to throw myself back into Westeros- WINTER IS COMING.

Oh, I also bought an Italian Dictionary, just to put my guilt to bed!
